Sometimes the simplest marketing ideas can have the greatest impacts
As some of you know, I’m an avid golfer. Recently while playing at my club a guy passed by with an electric walking cart, that was following him around. I noticed this while playing an adjacent hole, and when he passed by, I stopped and quizzed him on the cart.
I love to walk when playing golf, and I have an electric walking cart which is fine, but it requires me to keep my hand on it, as it seems to have a mind of its own. The new cart would allow me to walk and have the cart follow me. As I quizzed the fellow golfer, he shared with me how the product works, his experience which was overwhelmingly positive, and pricing information. He said, “as a matter of fact, I have a discount code you can have that will give your $100 off your order”. He reached into his golf cart pocket and pulled out a business card, that had a URL and a discount code.
Long story short, I took the card home, got online purchased the product, and received $100 off. When my product arrived, there was a flyer in the shipping material that spoke about how most of this company’s business was from “word of mouth”. The flyer also described their referral program and showed you how to sign up. After using the product and experiencing it, I then could feel good about sharing, so I signed up. Today this is what I received:
If you think about this, it’s super simple and a really inexpensive way to market a product. I’m going to be out playing with this new toy, other golfers are naturally going to be curious and ask me about it. CaddyTrek provided me with 10 business cards which they personalized with stickers with a promo code. As I talk to people who ask me about the product, I can give them a card so they can learn more and potentially save should they purchase. The company then conceivably has a fixed CAC (customer acquisition cost) of $200, $100 for the discount, and a $100 referral. The beauty of recruiting business this way is you have $0 incremental costs and you price your CAC into your product. As popularity scales, growth should be exponential.
What a great simple marketing concept. Good job #CaddyTrek.
